New and Pertinent Things

This is where I post new things I’ve been up to recently, for more examples of my work please browse through the portfolio posts above, and check out my blog posts in the feed to the right.

warning: overuse of the word ‘Recently’, so, recently I have been mildly obsessed with drawing tourists taking photos of themselves and each other.

Also Recently my output and stayputathomeput has been quite comic-centric. I’ve been writing comics reviews for Broken Frontier and The Quietus  and working on my own first medium length comic publication which is a selection of short stories and observations set in London and loosely based on my project of drawing ladies coming out of cookie cutters that can be seen under the hashtag #3point52billion

The beauty of doing short (often only 1 or 2 pages) stories is that I can also send some of the project to be in periodicals as I go along, like this page that can also be seen in Dirty Rotten Comics.Jenny Robins - comic - Maya on the phoneThis all started with the feminist poster I did for One Beat Zines. It combines a lot of my favourite things and ways of working, i.e. drawing words and collage and people and even a bird. I didn’t expect it to spawn a whole big project and a book but that’s the way it goes guys, creativity breeds creativity and briefs breed, um, personal work.

On the bird front I have some really juicy ink drawings over on Artfinder including this swan piece that got a lot of love. I wrote a blog piece about how drawing birds is like drawing faces after this here.
